We kicked off our community’s webinar series on January 18th with a presentation on the structure of the CCSS in Mathematics. Sara Delano Moore, Ph. D., Director of Mathematics and Science at ETA/Cuisenaire explored how the standards are organized (both K – 8 and 9 – 12) as well as how they differ from current state standards. She also reviewed changes in language (e.g., domains instead of strands) and the new focus on understanding concepts in addition to procedural fluency. The partnership of Standards for Mathematical Practice and Standards for Mathematics Content in classroom instruction is a key element of our discussion.
