Facilitating Language and Communication in the Classroom Environment

Presented by Anne Holmes, Chief Clinical Officer, Outreach, Eden Autism Services
Sponsored by Summit Professional Education

The speech, language and communication needs of students with autism vary from mutism to echolalia to disjointed conversations. Understanding the unique speech, language and communication deficits is the first step towards designing a classroom environment that supports good language and communication.  In this webinar, Eden Autism Services’ Anne Holmes presents strategies that can be used to expand the language skills of students with autism.  Anne outlines the various types of language deficits and then presents classroom therapy strategies that have been proven effective in practice.  She covers strategies such as communication temptations, scripting, social stories, language expansion, using reinforcement to enhance communication, and Augmentative Alternative Communication.
